Lady's Court Dress to 1820 - now in colour!

This lady is uncomfortably attired in the hooped court gown prescribed by Queen Charlotte. She has done her best with the unbecoming style; the drapings of her Florence satin skirts are accentuated with large tassels of Tussore silk. She wears the obligatory headdress of feathers attached to a bandeau with lappets pendant at the back. A double stranded necklace completes her costume.

The line drawing [link] is part of my Regency Fashions colouring book, which you can find here: [link]

what i dont get is why ,if the queen insisted on them having the big 'ol panniers , didnt they wear them with the type of bodice they were meant for? sure it would have been a rather out of date fashion, but better than gonig around looking like an upended toadstool surely?

Yes, exactly ^_^ It's pretty ridiculous! But I guess they felt that any touch of modernity, like the empire waist, was better than none? Despite the cupcake effect :aww:

Wow, this looks really awful. An Empire top and that big Rococo skirt? Did they really run around like this at court? D:
Anyway, I like all the little details you put in there. Pretty drawing!

I love how ridiculous the court dresses of the time looked when compared with what people wore everyday. :P

I love the linework on this it's so clean and neat plus the shading is perfect. The lady expression does look uncomfortable but still very dignified.
